Legislative Advisory Board Member
Bert Stedman is a Republican member of the Alaska State Senate, representing District A and the communities of Southeast Alaska, including Sitka, Ketchikan, Petersburg, Wrangell, and Yakutat. A fourth-generation Alaskan from Sitka, he has served in the State Senate since 2003 and co-chairs the Senate Finance Committee, the panel that writes Alaska’s operating and capital budgets. He is recognized in the chamber for his command of energy, taxation, public finance, and state-budgeting questions, the fiscal terrain on which Alaska’s oil-and-gas-dependent revenue model turns.
Before entering the legislature, Stedman ran an investment-services firm for some three decades and spent more than ten years in Sitka local government, experience that underpins his role as one of the Senate’s principal budget stewards. In addition to Finance, he serves on the Senate Rules, Transportation, and Legislative Budget and Audit committees, the Legislative Council, and the Special Committee on World Trade.
Senator Stedman serves on the Council for a Secure America’s Legislative Advisory Board (LAB), anchoring CSA’s engagement in Alaska and its work at the intersection of energy production and national security.
