After the departure of bassist Paul Webb following Spirit of Eden (1988), the band became a duo, consisting of singer multi instrumentalist Mark Hollis and drummer Lee Harris. They left EMI and signed with Polydor, who released the album under their revitalized jazz focused Verve Records label. Recorded at London's Wessex Sound Studios from September 1990
